YP&SS - Young Professionals and Summer School is a joint event organized by Brazilian universities with support and funding from two scientific societies IEEE - Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) and the ISPRS - International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. In addition, FAPESP (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo), CNPq (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico), AKA (Academy of Finland), CREA-SP (Conselho Regional de Engenharia e Agronomia do Estado de São Paulo) and FUNDUNESP (Fundação para o Desenvolvimento da Unesp) are supporting the event. These events are traditionally held by those organizations in several countries. It took place for the first time in Curitiba-PR, Brazil in 2015. This year YP&SS will take place at UNESP/FCT - Campus of Presidente Prudente-SP.

Due to great advances in the technology of Unmanned and Remotely Manned Aerial Vehicles and the integration of multiple remote small weight sensors, many applications are being developed and have attracted great interest in scientific and professional communities. Against this background, the objective of this event is to show the technical and professional possibilities of these new technologies to provide information to young professionals and researchers in the direction of their careers. Also, emphasis will be given to Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing techniques that can be used with lightweight platforms embedded in UAVs.

The event will be organized in two blocks. The first, lasting two days, follows the model of GRSS Young Professionals. It is intended to guide the careers of young professionals who have bee graduated up to 15 years and consists of lectures and interactive sessions delivered and moderated by prominent professionals active in business, education/research institutions and academia.

The second block, lasting three days, will follow the model of the ISPRS Summer School, aiming to transmit technical/scientific knowledge on the selected topic. In this block, presentations will be performed by three renowned speakers with great technical and scientific experience in the field: Teemu Hakala, an Engineer at the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute, will speak on the technology of UAVs; Eija Honkavaara, Senior Researcher at the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute, will present recent developments in Remote Sensing with UAVs; and Michael Cramer, professor at the University of Stuttgart, will present theoretical topics and applied photogrammetry based on UAVs.

The event is intended for top-level professionals, students of related courses and graduate students. The two blocks will be offered as a Special Topics of PPGCC - Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências Cartográficas, and students with sufficiency will be entitled to two (2) credits, awarded by PPGCC.

Students from outside can ask for financial assistance to participate. Rules will be posted in due course on this page.
